Braves wrap road trip on down note

The Braves returned home to Atlanta Sunday night off a road trip where they won 5 of 9 games, but lost in agonizing fashion earlier in the day at Colorado. It was a 9-7 loss in 11 innings, in a game that featured another 9th inning meltdown from closer Bob Wickman.

For a 3rd straight appearance, Wickman was not effective in his role of locking-up a Braves win. On Sunday he gave up a 2-run lead with a hit, 3 walks and a hit batter. The game ended in the 11th with a Matt Holliday 2-run homer off Steve Colyer.

The Braves had plenty of offense in the game--7 runs produced off 16 hits. But their pitching made things difficult by issuing 13 walks.

Immediately following the game, the Braves announced the trade of outfielder Ryan Langerhans to the Oakland A's. In return, the Braves will get either cash or a player to be named later. Langerhans has struggled offensively all season, batting only .068. He had a hit on Sunday, with just his 1st RBI of the season.

The Braves are now back to start a long homestand--the 1st of 3 games against the Phillies at Turner Field is Monday night.
