The Braves are in Colorado to start a 3-game series against the Rockies tonight. During the off-day yesterday, the team announced they’ve agreed to a contract extension with veteran pitcher John Smoltz, nearly assuring he will retire as a Brave.
Smoltz is guaranteed 14-million dollars to return in 2008 for a 20th season. The deal also includes a 12-million dollar option on 2009, if Smoltz throws 200 innings next year. There is a club option on 2010. Smoltz has a career 195 wins, and 154 saves.
The NFL Draft is this weekend. The Atlanta Falcons have 10 picks, including 7 in the first 4 rounds. Their 1st selection is at number-8 overall in round-1.
