Macon Mayor Ellis new job
Macon Mayor, Jack Ellis, is Uganda's newest diplomat. The title of "Honorary Consul General" will not become official until the mayor leaves office in December. U.S. State Department rules prevent elected officials from serving as agents of foreign countries until after they leave office.
The position is unpaid. The mayor will be given a diplomatic passport, and the responsibility of assisting Ugandan citizens living in the Southeast. He also hopes to promote business opportunities between Uganda and Georgia.
Uganda is located in Eastern Africa. Once known as the home of political dictator, Idi Amin, the country has been politically stable for the last twenty years. Mayor Ellis is a frequent visitor to Africa.
