Georgia State NAACP President, Edward DuBose, says he's disappointed in State Senate Minority Leader, Robert Brown, for refusing to support a resolution apologizing for slavery.
DuBose was in Macon to address leaders of the Georgia chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. He says Macon's Senator Brown missed a golden opportunity when he refused to support a resolution in the State Legislature apologizing for slavery. However, DuBose says the issue is not dead.
"We're here to say to Senator Brown and all those who choose to oppose this issue, that we will push this issue throughout the summer. We will come back during the next General Assembly and we will come in numbers until this apology is passed."
DuBose thanked Senate Majority Leader and Republican, Eric Johnson, for supporting the resolution despite the fact that not all Republicans signed on.
Brown called an apology demeaning and said it would do nothing for what he called," the most heinous crime in the annals of history. "
Alabama, Virginia, Maryland and North Carolina lawmakers have already apologized for their state's roles in slavery and DuBose believes Georgia should do the same thing.
