PeachCare’s effort to cut spending during its funding crisis may have actually boosted its price tag. The state’s health insurance program for poor children halted enrollment last month because it lacked millions in federal funds. But in the weeks leading up to the enrollment deadline, thousands of Georgians signed up. The rush boosted enrollment by 15,000, up to just over 290-thousand enrollees. Another $8 million has been added to the midyear budget to handle the spike in enrollment.
