Georgia sports for Thursday, May 3rd

The Braves got back on the winning track last night, edging the Phillies 4-3 at Turner Field in Atlanta.
Newcomer Willie Harris had the game-winning RBI single in the 6th inning for the difference. Chipper Jones earlier in the game kept up his hot-hitting with a 2-run double. From the bullpen, a scoreless inning each for Chad Paranto, Tyler Yates, Mike Gonzalez, and Rafael Soriano. It was the 2nd save for Soriano, filling in for the injured Bob Wickman. The Braves are off today.

Before the game, the Braves addressed the situation with their hurting catchers, by calling up Jarrod Saltalamacchia from the minors. He was the starting catcher, so Brian McCann could rest a bruised finger. Backup Bryan Pena is on the 15-day disabled list with concussion symptoms. Saltalamacchia was the Braves’ top draft pick in 2002. It was a nice way Wednesday to celebrate his 22nd birthday.
