The Braves had another late rally as they beat the Padres again by the final of 3-2 last night in Atlanta. In the 7th inning, Chipper Jones and Andruw Jones delivered consecutive 2-out RBI hits for the difference.
The pitching matchup featured former Braves teammates of 11 years, and likely Hall of Famers: John Smoltz and Greg Maddux. Both threw well--Maddux going 5 and a third innings with 4 hits and a run allowed, but getting a no-decision. Smoltz improved his record to 5-1 with the win, working 7 innings with 7 hits and 2 runs surrendered.
The Braves and Padres conclude their 4-game series this afternoon at Turner Field.
College baseball last night from Athens saw Georgia at home beat Georgia Tech 9-4. The Bulldogs won the season series between the rivals, 2 games to 1.
