The Braves last night fell to the Nationals for a second time in the 3-games played so far in the series from Washington, the final of 6-4.
The Nationals put together a '4-run' 5th inning against Kyle Davies, who allowed a Ryan Church 3-run double as the big hit. The door to the inning was opened by 2nd baseman Kelly Johnson's fielding error. The Braves had little luck against the Washington-bullpen, which threw 5 shutout innings. The 4-game series concludes this afternoon with a 1:05 1st pitch from the nation’s Capital.
More injury-problems for the Braves: lefty reliever Mike Gonzalez is going on the 15-day disabled list with a left elbow problem. He will have an MRI test today back in Atlanta.
The investigation into Falcons' quarterback Michael Vick's possible knowledge of dog fighting at his Virginia residence continues. A Virginia prosecutor, sheriff and investigators will meet Monday to review evidence. Dogs and equipment relating to dog fighting have been seized in the weeks of the investigation. No charges have been filed, but as many as ten people could be involved. Vick has claimed relatives lived at the house which he owns, and that they took advantage of his generosity.
Columbus State's softball team begins play today in the NCAA Division II Softball Championship Finals in Akron, Ohio. The top-ranked Cougars will face defending champion Lock Haven (Pa) at noon today. The 8-team tournament final is double-elimination.
