Group calls for ouster of Clark-Atlanta president

A group of faculty, students and alumni is calling for the ouster of Clark-Atlanta University's school president. They say a lack of leadership has spawned a crisis at the private historically-black institution.

Faculty are leading the effort to remove Dr. Walter Broadnax. Students, alumni, and some community leaders are backing the push. Last week, faculty trustees issued a 'lack of confidence' statement against Broadnax.

Among the charges against Broadnax--cutting academic programs at Clark-Atlanta while increasing tuition rates. Diane Plummer is a faculty representative, and has been professor at the school for 20 years:

"there is an illusion of clear, open, honest communication..in reality, we faculty, staff, students and alumni..have been misled, there have been deliberate attempts to lie, mislead, manipulate and confuse".

Right now, Broadnax is still in his post, although his five-year contract is set to expire. The school's Board of Trustees has created an executive vice president position in the wake of the scandal.
