A northeast Georgia district attorney has turned-in his resignation, as a state investigation into financial issues within his office continues. Tim Madison of the Piedmont Judicial Circuit has offered the resignation effective June 4th, awaiting Governor Sonny Perdue’s approval.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation began a probe in March. At issue is whether money from a victim's assistance fund was misspent. Madison kept at least four bank accounts-—one a crime victims fund. Money is alleged to have been spent on salaries, travel, meals and whitewater rafting.
Madison’s office prosecutes cases in Banks, Barrow and Jackson counties.
