At a press conference today, prosecutors in the decades old case of the Atlanta child killings brushed aside defense claims of new evidence.
Defense attorneys for Wayne Williams hoped DNA evidence would prove their client innocent of a string of murders that gripped the Atlanta area in the early-80's.
A California lab tested dog hairs from a German Shepard owned by Williams. The defense had hoped to prove not all of the hairs found on the victims came from Williams's dog. However, test results showed all of the dog hair was similar and could not positively exclude Williams's dog.
Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard says he remains convinced Williams is guilty.
Thirty African Americans will kill between 1979 and 1981. The youngest, Latonya Wilson was seven years old.
Williams was tried and convicted for just two of the murders. Wilson is currently serving two consecutive life terms.
