One of the world’s worst weeds is invading Georgia. Cogon grass – also called Japanese blood grass – has been spotted in southeastern Georgia in Clinch, Camden, Charlton and Brantley counties.
It spreads quickly and is hard to control once it takes root. Experts warn the weed could eventually turn the Southeast into a grassy savanna devoid of all native species.
Cogon grass has the potential to be more of a menace than kudzu. Anyone who thinks they find cogon grass should contact the Georgia Forestry Commission.
