Georgia sports for Wednesday July 18th

The Braves for a second straight night lost to the Cincinnati Reds, falling 6-5 in Atlanta Tuesday. The Braves trailed 6-nothing after 7 innings, but then mounted a furious comeback. They scored 4 runs in the 8th inning, as Andruw Jones knocked a 2-run homer, followed later by a Kelly Johnson 2-RBI triple. Chipper Jones in the 9th delievered a 2-out run-scoring single, but the rally ended there. For 7 innings, the Braves were handcuffed by Reds starting pitcher Bronson Arroyo. He posted 9 strikeouts while holding Atlanta scoreless.

A first hearing date is expected to be set today for Atlanta Falcons' quarterback Michael Vick as he faces federal dogfighting charges. Vick was indicted Tuesday on charges relating to his involvement in a dog fighting operation. Falcons' owner Arthur Blank returned to team headquarters in Flowery Branch from a trip out of the country. It was reported he was in meetings with team officials Wednesday morning.
There has been no additional comment from the team as of yet. The Falcons released a brief statement Tuesday night, saying the team was "disturbed" by the news.
