Governor Perdue says there is no guarantee that the state will help financially strapped Grady Hospital even if it changes the way it is governed.
A taskforce has recommended that the hospital run by Fulton and DeKalb Counties change its power structure to an independent non profit. Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle last week sent a letter to the two counties saying if they do not change governance of the hospital, he will take legislative action to do so.
"I think a change in governance is needed, I don't want to imply that with a change in governance there is automatic state funding," said Perdue.
Perdue says the state has to balance the needs of rural hospitals with those in Metro Atlanta. Grady Memorial is a vital part of the state's overall trauma care system.
