Macon residents have selected a former City Councilman and State Representative to run in the November mayoral election.
Attorney Robert Reichert won by an overwhelming majority in Macon's Democratic mayoral primary. With five opponents in the race, he garnered 63-percent of the vote, winning in every precinct.
Reichert says that even though he campaigned hard, he was surprised by the margin of victory.
"We kept feeling good about the response we were getting when we'd go door to door and people would be very encouraging and affirming. We felt good, but didn't realize we had this level of support".
Reichert was the only white candidate in the Democratic primary in a city where 60-percent of the residents are black.
Reichert will run against Republican challenger David Cousino. He got just over 300 votes compared to Reichert's nearly 10-thousand in the primary.
