Aquarium staff gets real on the coast

It's one thing to have an exhibit on Georgia's coast. It's another to experience it.

Sixteen educators from the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta concluded a 3-day visit to the Georgia coast today. While here, staff members responsible for teaching thousands of kids and adults went to barrier islands, estuaries and trawling out at sea.

Education program manager Kim Morris-Zarneke says, experience in the estuaries, in particular, gave the educators something to take back to the landlocked aquarium.

"That's one of our biggest challenges, recreating nature, recreating filtration systems, lighting, the right animal relationships," she said. "So we have to come here, peek and see how everything works."

Educators also learned about research taking place here. They were hosted by the Skidaway Institute of Oceanography.
