Two years after nearly 50-thousand people fled to Georgia following hurricanes in the Gulf Coast, a new category of evacuees are heading to the Atlanta-metro area. And, those displaced by Hurricanes Rita and Katrina are still contacting the International Rescue Committee. Regional director Ellen Beatty says these aren't the poor who were stranded on rooftops. She says this new category of evacuees have come to Georgia for one basic reason. "Some people entered into a new type of crisis in this most recent stage. We found people who held good paying jobs and owned homes. They’re entering a new phase of their crises more than 12 months later." Beatty says many of the evacuees find it difficult to work with agencies that no longer consider their circumstance a national emergency. Even her group has stopped providing relief services.
