The City of Brunswick is considering an early curfew for youths in the wake of a shooting that killed 13-year-old girl.
Police say, a gunman firing at a passing car shot and killed Rolanda Roberts last month. She was standing in the middle of a street near her home at 2 AM.
State law already forbids minors from being out between midnight and 5 AM. Brunswick Mayor Bryan Thompson says, he supports a stricter curfew and was surprised the city didn't have one.
"I grew up with curfews and as a teenager, I violated them a few times," said Thompson. "And I would get picked up and I would get in trouble. But they were there for a reason."
Details haven't been worked out yet. At least one City Commissioner has proposed a curfew applying to youths age-16 and younger, beginning at 9 PM on weeknights and 11 PM on weekends, with exemptions for work, school and other supervised activities.
