A longtime collaborator with the late Godfather of Soul and Augusta native James Brown died this week at his home at Loganville near Atlanta. Bobby Byrd died Wednesday, reportedly of cancer. He can be heard on early James Brown tracks … and he sang the punctuating phrase “Get on up” on Brown’s hit “Sex Machine.” Bobby Byrd was 72.
