Georgia Pakistanis mourning Bhutto

Local Pakistan community leaders say they are shocked over the assassination of Benazir Bhutto.

Imran Surani, president of Pak-Atlanta says he represents some 25,000 Pakistanis statewide. Surani says his community is urging the US and other nations to eradicate terrorism.

Surani spoke with GPB News from India, where he was en route to Karachi:

“I spoke with several people in Atlanta, and especially Georgia, and they said, ‘This wasn’t an assassination of a leader, this was an assassination of democracy.’”
Surani will also meet with his father and family, who live in Karachi. Surani says he is very concerned about their safety.
”Indeed I am. Indeed I am. Of course, as you know, this entire nation is shocked by her death and assassination. So, the outcome of that, people are angry, and they’re showing their anger; they’re out on the street, which really concerns me for my family and entirely for the entire nation as well.”
Surani says he will meet with government officials on Saturday to discuss the state of emergency.
