The Georgia Aquarium has introduced a new exhibit that features American alligators. The fresh water exhibit imitates the natural environment of a Georgia swamp. The American alligator was first listed as an endangered species in 1967 because of loss of habitat and hunting. In 1987 the animal was removed from the endangered species list after the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service pronounced the American alligator fully recovered.
