It just got a lot harder for coastal Glynn County to proceed with a controversial jail expansion.
Glynn County needs the new jail space, but an expansion on prime real estate, across from the waterfront in Brunswick's Historic District, has come under fire. Critics say, the project is a waste of taxpayer funds and a drag on downtown revitalization.
Now one of those critics, Bob Torras Sr., has bought property at the proposed expansion site in an attempt at least to slow the project.
"They'll have to take me to court to get it," Torras says. "They'll have to go before a judge."
The county can claim Torras' property through imminent domain, but that ups the ante in terms of time and costs. County officials vow to go forward with the project, however long it takes.
