The state House of Representatives has approved a bill to give consumers more control over their credit reports. House Bill 130 would allow consumers to instantly freeze their credit report. Credit reporting agencies could charge up to 3 dollars for the freeze. The proposed measure also requires credit reporting agencies to provide either a PIN number or a password. Consumers can then freeze and unfreeze access to their credit reports at will, or when a credit check is required, like when shopping for a car. Finally, the bill prevents credit reporting agencies from releasing information without written permission. The measure now goes to the Senate.
