The chair of the Board of the Department of Transportation got a nod of support despite the department's money woes, when lawmakers from the 9th Congressional District re-elected Mike Evans to head the DOT board for another five year term.
In recent months, House Speaker Glen Richardson had made no secret of his dislike for Evans, even publicly rebuking Evans for not keeping a better eye on the department's wallet.
Following his win, Evans said its time to put rancor aside and get back to work.
"I'm looking forward, not looking back. We got a lot of issues to address statewide and we got a lot to address in the 9th Congressional District. I'll look forward to working with all 24 of those guys and the leadership of the House and Senate and the Governor to get that done
Mullis had backed former state representative Stacey Reece in an attempt to unseat Evans.
"I'm very excited about the vote. I know that the Lt. Governor and the Speaker wanted to move forward when it comes to transportation issues and its time to move on."
Evans retained his seat by a vote of 13 to 10.
