In an unusually fast and private court procedure, Georgia House Speaker Glenn Richardson and his wife Susan, have ended their marriage. The couple filed for divorce and completed the dissolution of their marriage in just one day last week. State law requires couple to wait thirty days before uncontested divorces are final, but judges do have discretion to immediately approve a divorce in situations involving cruel treatment, mental illness or adultery. The divorce comes one year after Georgia Democrats filed an ethics complaint against Richardson, accusing him of having an inappropriate relationship with a lobbyist while co-sponsoring legislation to benefit her employer. A legislative panel subsequently threw out the complaint.
