Georgia sports for Friday, March 14th

The men's teams of Georgia and Georgia Tech both advanced through their first-round matchups in their respective college basketball conference tournaments. From the SEC Tourney, Georgia's Bulldogs went to overtime to slip by Ole Miss last night in Atlanta, 97-95. The winner came from Dave Bliss, who banked-in a shot with .4 seconds left. Georgia tonight faces Kentucky in the semifinals. The news was good for Georgia Tech as well. The Yellow Jackets ran past Virginia 94-76 in their opening ACC Tournament contest. Tech now faces Duke tonight in Charlotte.

Spring training action continues for the Atlanta Braves--they played to a 6-6 tie with the Tigers Thursday. Pitcher Chuck James was solid in his first start of the preseason: only 1 hit allowed in his 2 scoreless innings of work. The Braves are in Clearwater, Florida today to face the Phillies.

Out of pro hockey, Ilya Kovalchuk scored 3 goals to pace the Atlanta Thrashers' 6-4 win over Calgary.
