Senate Bill 458 requires public schools that lose their accreditation to provide state-funded scholarships so students who can take that money to another public or private school.
House Bill 1133 Creates the Student Scholarship Organizations. Qualified 501(c)(3) non-profit groups that dedicate 90 percent of annual revenues for scholarships and tuition grants. These grants and scholarships will be available to public school students who want to attend private schools. HB 1133 also allows for a corporate tax credit for these Student Scholarship Organizations. The credit will not exceed the actual amount of money spent on scholarships or 75 percent of the corporation's tax liability-- which ever amount is less.
