Georgia sports for Wednesday, April 16th

From baseball, the Atlanta Braves are sputtering on their 3-city road trip. They opened a 3-game series in Florida last night with a 4-0 loss to the Marlins. Atlanta’s offense was not able to solve Florida starting pitcher Scott Olsen, who scattered 5 hits over 7 innings. Braves-starter Jair Jurrjens was good with 4 hits and 2 runs in 6 innings, but took the loss. The Braves are only 2-5 for this road trip, within a 5-8 start for the season overall.

College baseball--Georgia’s Bulldogs capped a big comeback to top visiting East Tennesee 9-8 in Athens. Georgia trailed in the game 8-1 in the 6th inning. Georgia Tech’s team will resume its action on the field today at 4 o’clock in Statesboro at Georgia Southern. Tech’s Yellow Jackets buried their teammate, pitcher Michael Hutts yesterday. Hutts was found dead in his apartment last Friday.

From the NFL, the Atlanta Falcons are continuing their mini-camp workouts in Flowery Branch this week under new head coach Mike Smith.
