Pilots with Atlanta-based Delta airlines have voted to overhaul their union contract, as the merger with Minnesota based Northwest seems likely to be approved. Nearly eighty percent of Delta’s 7,000 pilots signed onto the deal, which includes annual pay raises, as well as an equity stake in the combined new airline. Details of the agreement haven’t been released. And, it’s unclear whether negotiators resolved the issue of potential pilot furloughs. The union wanted a guarantee that no Delta pilot would be laid off for at least two years, if the merger was successful. The modified contract does not cover Northwest’s 5,000 pilots, or Delta’s flight attendants.
