Farmers get break with diesel tax suspension

Governor Sonny Perdue signed an order today to suspend the state sales tax on diesel sold for off-road uses, such as farming. The aim is to give a boost to farmers struggling with rising fuel prices. The state’s Farm Bureau has been pushing for a tax break, which will result in the rollback of the 4-percent sales tax for off-road diesel. The lost revenue will cost the state between 2-4 million dollars. The tax will remain suspended until the state Legislature returns next January. Farming is Georgia’s largest industry.
