Audit of education program finds fraud, waste and nepotism

An education program championed by Governor Sonny Perdue underwent an audit, and the report is scathing.

According to the Augusta Chronicle, the Academic Coach Program was established in 2005 to improve teaching by paying talented teachers extra money to mentor colleagues in struggling school districts.

But just two years in, the report finds that none of the 1.2 million dollar budget was used for salary supplements. Instead, it found fraud, waste, and nepotism—one official steered 53 thousand dollars to he and his wife’s company, another improperly reimbursed herself 170 thousand dollars for improper expenses.
