Columbus lands pollution settlement

The city of Columbus was awarded over three million dollars on Tuesday for its share of damages in pollution lawsuit against neighboring Phenix City. The Columbus Ledger Enquirer reports the city, a local boat dealer and a Columbus resident won their suit against Continental Carbon in 2004, over damages to homes, businesses and buildings by carbon black dust from the plant. The battle reached the U.S. Supreme Court in June, which rejected appeals against $17 and a half million dollar in fines.
