The Georgia Supreme Court has overturned a system of three-judge panels that has reduced prison sentences for hundreds of inmates. But the court stopped short of reinstating the original prison terms, saying that reversing sentences which have already been reduced by the panels would amount to double jeopardy. Prosecutors argued that inmates have abused the system of three-judge panels, however, defense attorneys say the panels were an extra line of defense where they could appeal sentences.
