When the Democrats hold their convention this week in Denver, one Georgia Congressman will not be showing up.
Despite being a super delegate Congressman Jim Marshall will be skipping the Democratic convention in Denver. He is also one of a small handful of Democrats who has not endorsed Senator Barack Obama.
An official in Marshall's office says he just returned from a trip to the Middle east and is busy with his own campaign, and that Obama's nomination is a done deal at this point.
Martin Matheny is with the Democratic Party of Georgia. He is in Denver, and he says he understands why Marshall is not coming.
"Jim Marshall is in the middle of a hot re-election campaign. The Republicans have proven time and time again that they will throw millions and millions of dollars. They'll throw the kitchen sink into defeating Jim Marshall. I think the Congressman is doing what he needs to do."
The 8th District is less than one-third Black and majority Republican. Marshall is running for re-election against retired General Rick Goddard. During the last election Marshall won by just 18-hundred votes against his Republican challenger.
