All quiet here at "Vernon Jones for Senate" campaign headquarters, located at Piedmont and Peachtree Streets, in Atlanta. Everything is decked out in red, white and blue, including volunteers and staff. Volunteers are busy working the phones, trying hard to convince stragglers to get to the polls before the 7PM deadline. Did I just hear a volunteer tell a voter to cast a ballot for Mr. Jones because he is "gorgeous?" In the meantime, the candidate has yet to make an appearance, but his supporters and other volunteers are milling around. This reporter is using her keen hearing powers to eavesdrop on a conversation between a pair of reporters and Jones' campaign staff. A spokesman for Jones is promising the candidate will make an early appearance. It seems Mr. Jones was a tab late during the primary. BTW: there's only one small copy of that controversial picture of Mr. Jones with the Democratic presidential candidate. It's tucked away in a small window at the back of campaign headquarters.
