A federal judge ruled today against a bid to carry guns into Atlanta’s airport. From Georgia Public Broadcasting Susanna Capelouto reports.
The decision is a setback for the gun lobby group Georgia Carry. It is suing the city of Atlanta, arguing a new state law allows guns on public transportation. And that they say includes Atlanta Hartsfield International airport.
Georgia carry asked a judge for a preliminary injunction but The judge ruled that public safety outweighs any individual harm that might be caused by the gun ban. State Representative Tim Bearden who pushed the lawsuit was disappointed.
This is a second Amendment issue, Bearden says. "It's about individual rights and in the end we will prevail."
Airport officials hailed the decision saying the judge made sure that travelers remain save at the worlds’ busiest airport at least until the lawsuit is resolved.
