The Georgia High School Association has granted a hardship waiver to a "Jena 6" student. It makes Robert Bailey Jr. eligible to play football for Shaw High School in Columbus this season. He is one of six black teens from Jena High School in Louisiana charged with beating a white student in December 2006. The association waived its eight-semester rule for Bailey. Under the eight-semester rule, a student can only play interscholastic sports for eight consecutive semesters. Bailey is technically in his ninth semester of high school.
