Loggerhead sea turtles will end their nesting season on Georgia beaches with a record-setting year. State wildlife officials say, already 1, 544 loggerhead nests were found on Georgia beaches through August first. The nesting season lasts through mid-August. The previous annual record was 1,504 nests in 2003. The loggerhead is the only sea turtle to regularly nest on Georgia beaches. It is listed as a threatened species.
