South Georgia prepared for a soaker

Officials in Southeast Georgia are preparing for Tropical Storm Fay, but they don't expect much beyond a good soaking. As long as the is storm just rain, Bulloch County Agricultural Extention agent Pat Todd welcomes Fay.

"What we don't want is high winds that knock the cotton down or knock our corn down," Todd says.

Forecasters expect wind gusts in excess of 20 miles-per-hour. The storm could drop between two and six inches of rain in areas down by as much or more in annual rainfall. That's good for crops, but could lead to coastal flooding.

Chatham County spokesman Pete Nichols says, crews have been busy clearing ditches and checking tide gates in case a lot of rain happens at high tide. "The biggest concern would be, 'How long and when is that rain going to come?'" Nichols says.

Forecasters expect the storm or its remnants to hang around Georgia through the weekend.
