A Republican removed from the Jekyll Island board is blasting plans to redevelop the state-run island. He calls a sweetheart deal for a politically-connected developer.
Brunswick attorney Ed Boshears has been a frequent critic of plans to upscale Jekyll Island with luxury condominiums, but his latest comments are his most scathing. He says other board members held secret meetings to steer the massive redevelopment to a company owned by Republican fundraiser Mercer Reynolds.
"Some of my fellow board members and the Governor and some of his cronies have been primarily concerned about enriching some politically-connected private developers and I am not just going to sit quietly and see that go on without saying something," Boshears said.
Both the Governor's office and Jekyll Island board chairman Bob Krueger deny Boshears' allegations, which come days after Governor Perdue announced that he is replacing Boshears one The board.
