Tax stimulus deadline approaching

Time is running out for taxpayers to claim their stimulus checks. Millions have gone unclaimed so far and that may be because some people don't know they're eligible. There are at least 165,000 Georgians eligible to receive a stimulus check but have not applied for one. That comes to about $50 million dollars. Richard Kramer is with the AARP Foundation Tax Aid Program for Seniors. He says residents often don't file because they earn less than $10,000 dollars. "We think there’s a lot of people, particularly elderly in homes and in senior residences that may not really take in all the news, and they haven't filed a return in years and they just think they might hear about this stimulus rebate and they think its going to be automatic." Even residents who haven't filed a tax return either because they're on Social Security or because they earn less than $10,000 will have to do so to get the rebate. The deadline for applying for the tax stimulus check is October 15.
