5 years for bribing former Atl school official

A federal judge has sentenced the former owner of a computer technology company to five years in prison for bribing a former Atlanta school official for favorable treatment on contracts. R. Clay Harris was convicted in July on four counts of bribery and one count of conspiracy to bribe an official and deprive taxpayers of services. U.S. District Judge Clarence Cooper also sentenced the 56-year-old Harris to three years of supervised release. Harris was convicted of paying more than $230,000 in bribes to Arthur Scott, technology director of Atlanta Public Schools, in exchange for $11 million in government contracts for his company. The money came from the federal E-rate program, which provided schools and libraries with money for infrastructure for high-speed Internet use.
