Oglethorpe accreditation at risk

Oglethorpe University could still lose its accreditation after a review showed its financial stability is a concern. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools accredits degree-granting institutions in 11 Southern states and Latin America. Belle Wheelan is president of the agency's commission on colleges. She says it will give Oglethorpe time to review its financial problems then review it again next year. The agency also had warned the school last year that its deficiencies could lead to the loss of accreditation. Oglethorpe is a 1,200-student private university in Atlanta. Its President Lawrence Schall could not be reached for comment.
