Sports--Braves Get Busy

In the wake of losing longtime veteran pitcher John Smoltz to the Boston Red Sox, the Atlanta Braves were busy Tuesday.

The team reportedly has reached contract terms with veteran free agent pitcher Derek Lowe. The deal is a reported 60-million dollars for 4 years. The 35-year-old pitcher played with the Los Angeles Dodgers last season. A big bulk of his career was with Boston, with whom he won a World Series in 2004. Lowe has averaged 15 wins a season over his past 7 years. His deal will become official once he passes a physical this week.

An official move the Braves announced Tuesday--the introduction of the first Japanese-born player in the history of the franchise. Pitcher Kenshin Kawakami has been signed to a 3-year contract.
