The Augusta Canal is being re-filled. It has been drained since Jan. 27 to allow workers to install new pipes to the city's drinking water plant. The rewatering process will take seven to 10 days to complete. By removing dams water from three creeks can flow through the canal. The 8 1/2-mile waterway was built in 1845 to harness the water and power of the Savannah River and is now a popular recreation area.
