A new poll suggests next year's Governor's race remains wide open a week after Lt. Governor Casey Cagle's surprise decision to pull out.
The Strategic Vision poll of 800 likely Georgia voters is the first since Cagle's decision. It shows Savannah Republican Jack Kingston third in the G.O.P. race for Governor, not far behind Secretary of State Karen Handel at 14%, but well behind Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine at 33%. Handel and Oxendine are officially in the race, while Kingston is said to be mulling it over. A quarter of the G.O.P. respondents were undecided.
On the Democratic side, it's all on former Governor Roy Barnes, who is a speculative candidate. The polls shows, if Barnes entered the race, he would capture most of the party's undecideds and have the support of 56% of Democrats. The only other Democratic candidate polling above single digits is Attorney General Thurbert Baker.
