UGA Opens $60 Million Building Addition

UGA has opened a new 97,000-square-foot addition to the campus’ Tate Student Center. Dubbed “the living room of campus” by the university’s officials, the $60 million space is being marketed as a place for fun and relaxation.

A 12,000 square foot ballroom, a 24-foot wide projection screen and five restaurants headline the site’s top features. According to the Athens Banner Herald, on-campus organizations and departments have already booked the ballroom for 100 future events.

Packed with open lobbies, large windows allowing natural light and a 508-spot parking deck, the space will look to not only attract students during the school year, but also football fans on game days.

The building addition was funded in part by a $25 per semester fee footed by students since 2005.
