Georgia sports for Monday, May 19th

Atlanta Braves--

The Braves continued their success at home, winning 2-of-3 games over the Oakland A’s from the weekend, including Sunday’s 5-2 victory. The Braves got 3 hits from shortstop Yunel Escobar, including a 2-run RBI single in the 2nd inning. Omar Infante delivered a 2-RBI triple in the 8th inning to provide breathing room. Jo Jo Reyes earned the pitching win, with 8 hits and 2 runs scattered across 5 innings. The bullpen continued its strong work with 4 scoreless frames. The Braves now boast a major-league best 16-5 home record in their games at Turner Field in Atlanta.

There has been a setback for veteran pitcher John Smoltz trying to return to action. He felt discomfort in his right shoulder in two throwing sessions the past few days, possibly extending his return from the disabled list into sometime in June.

PGA Golf-Duluth--

The AT-and-T Classic was won by Ryuji Imada, who beat Kenny Perry in a one-hole playoff.

Georgia Bulldogs-NCAA Tennis--

In the NCAA tennis championships, the Georgia Bulldogs will face Virginia today in one of the semifinals in action from Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Georgia sports for Friday, May 16th

Atlanta Braves--

The Braves wrapped their road trip with a loss in Philidelphia last night, 5-0 to the Phillies. The Braves dropped 2-of-3 to the Phillies, and posted only a 2-5 road trip. The longest homestand of the season opens tonight for the Braves--an 11-game stretch against Oakland, the NY Mets, and Arizona. This evening, the opener against the A's at Turner Field.

AT-and-T Classic-Duluth--

Kenny Perry and 4 other golfers were tied atop the leaderboard in Duluth after a rain-soaked opening round of the AT-and-T Classic in Duluth, Georgia.

NCAA Golf/State college teams--

Action continues today for Georgia, Georgia Tech, and Georgia State in the NCAA Golf regional championships.
