A Columbus native killed in Iraq last week, will be buried on Friday with full military honors.
The flag-draped coffin of Cpl. John Corey Tanner, 21, killed Aug. 29 in Anbar province, arrived at the Columbus Metropolitan Airport Tuesday morning. Tanner's family and friends and a Marine honor guard from Albany greeted the aircraft, according to a report in the Ledger-Enquirer newspaper.

Columbus Marine killed in Iraq
Cpl. John C. Tanner, 21, of Columbus, Ga., died August 29th in combat in Al Anbar province, Iraq.
Tanner was assigned to the 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, at Camp Pendleton, Calif., according to a Department of Defense statement released Thursday.
At least 3,735 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, as of Thursday, August 30th, according to an Associated Press count. The figure includes seven military civilians.
At least 3,058 died as a result of hostile action, according to the military's numbers. The AP count is three higher than the Defense Department's tally, last updated Thursday at 10 a.m. EDT.
