400 new jobs on the way to Bartow County

Bartow County is getting another 400 jobs and an investment of 270-million dollars. Toyo Tire North America Manufacturing is expanding its location there for a third time in four years. The expansion will more than double the output of the plant. When completed, the operation will involve around 850 employees.

State Patrol leads motorist crackdown in north Georgia

Starting today, the Georgia State Patrol will be joined by other state and local agencies to begin a 90-day crackdown on speeders and intoxicated drivers. The launch of "Operation Rolling Thunder" this morning involves a rolling roadblock in Bartow County--between the Red Top Mountain exit on Interstate-75, north past the Cartersville Main street exit. There will be day and night traffic stops during the 90-day period for seat belt checks as well. The crackdown is targeted for Bartow and Paulding counties, as officials say they are two of the deadliest in the state for traffic accidents.

Copper theft plague continues

Copper theft continues to plague Georgia as the price of copper rises. Now a northwest Georgia county wants new state laws to crack down on thieves who steal copper from homes, construction sites and businesses. The Daily Tribune reports that investigators in Bartow County say copper thefts would go down if the state started regulating scrap metal dealers. Now, dealers offer cash for copper and other scrap metal, but don’t record much information about the seller. Investigators say the cash-only system allows thieves anonymity.

New jobs for Bartow County

Governor Sonny Perdue announced into the weekend that another 100-plus jobs is on the way to Bartow County near Cartersville. Toyo Tire and Rubber Company is increasing production at its' plant here in Georgia. The expansion involves a 50-million dollar investment in capital improvements.
